Monday 26jun2020

Today I decided to start writing a post before my training session. I'll fill it up throughout the day. Broke the lightest string on a guitar while watching a lesson about bends. Ordered strings, but I have to take something else for free delivery. Thinking of buying a cowbell, since I can't afford a drum set right now 😁 Made coffee with 70 beans, plan to do some heavy chinups with more light work. Thinking of doing heavy squats today instead of wednesday, so I don't have dls on the next day after squats. Gotta accumulate that energy.     Thought about how you can't be a professional philosopher or a theologian. You can't get paid for thinking about (or searching for) wisdom or God. That's what Socrates was against - the sophists, who were getting paid for twisting the truth and teaching people how to do it.     Lat time I studies modern philosophy I passed the exam automatically, because I was really enthusiastic during the seminars (meanwhile, I wasn...

Viginti Septem Iunii, Viginti Duo Milia, Anno Domini

So, I had a nice couple sessions. Thursday first 25 june 2020 Stiff legged deadlift 120 kgs - 4 set of 6, quick tempo BTK (below the knee) rack pull (a.k.a. 18 inch deadlift) 190*2 all of my back spasmed really hard, nice 😁 I think my best at BTK was about 270 in the past 120*2 Then I stopped. 27 june 2020 Keeping it on the easier side, but getting to some stronger muscle fibers with this workout "Tiny bench" press 102*13 102*11 102*10 bridged on the last rep 102*8 same Still got a tendency to lock out above my belly, shoulders too strong I guess (jk) JM press 50*21 40*18 Played around with gymnastic rings, hung them close to the floor, so I had to keep my legs up Did some chinups 6 6 on my wrists 6 tried that gymnasic grip where they do a muscle up 6 simple Did a couple sets of curls with 20 kgs on one ring, and some explosive presses with the bar to cooldown. Nutrition has been quite alright lately, 7/10. Why have a twitter when you can have a blog? It's like standing ...

The story of kingdoms of Catabolism and Anabolism (NSFW) (jk)

A long time ago, the world was one great kingdom, where some people only had anabolism and most people had catabolism. At the dawn of the new age the world was split by a great river, and on the left side of the river people started to believe only in Anabolism, while on the right side of the river they believed only in Catabolism. They argued a lof - "Anabolism is better, we have more muscle" - "No, katabolism is better, we lift more and we eat less". People of Catabolism were very proud and started eating all anabolic people in their kingdom, and spreading their meat among everyone. People of Anabolism were depressed and fat. Then the Kingdom of Evil Vegans rose up on the right side of the river, and they said: "Time to kill all meat, and plant only vegetables instead of feeding pigs & chickens". They attacked both kigdoms, and a small kingdom of Pescetarians helped them. Kingdoms of Anabolism and Katabolism had to unite and fight off the Kingdom of ...

Couple of sessions & my recent hobby

22 june 2020 Nice weather, I don't feel as sticky anymore. Spent a lot of time outside. Narrow grip parallel bar chinups Warmup 8 reps +32 kgs *3 +32 kgs *4 +32 kgs *5 +32 kgs *4 and a half + some static hold +32 kgs - 11 seconds static hold Felt a lot of pump in my actual lats, quite a rare feeling. Stone carry 70 kgs for a warmup 100 kgs - two walks for about 10 meters each (not sure, might post a video later) Feels good. It's been at least a couple years since I last touched that stone. What a lazy ass 😁 Plate lift (for the lack of a better word) - basically, it's a stack of plates that I lift to my chest like a stone. Requires a lot of wrist control, because if it tips over to the front then you can't hold it. 100*1 120*1 140 - 2 attempts - got both of them to my knees (so, thankfully, that means that my back is in an OK shape), then they fell to the front. When I think about it, doing stone & plate lifts after chinups might seem a little counterproductive. But...

My "iron path" (short version)

Image
Well, I guess it's time to finally introduce myself. My name's Ivan, and the reason I created this blog is so that I can have an online training log. Plus, I do often really want to just think to myself and have an alternative way to reflect on my thoughts (i.e. read the blog). Not everyone gets to become an ethusiast to do something regularly for over ten years. I started partaking in "physical culture" around the time when I was 12 - doing some pullups, pushups, a lot of cheat bicepc curls with a 27 kg ez bar that my father bought for himself. Between 13 and 16 I frequently visited a boxing section on one of my local gyms (there was mostly kids there, but I did have a couple sparring partners of my age). At 16 I became a fan of Bruce Lee (a very typical one), and, besides side-kicking the air, I also enjoyed a lot of grip work - mostly hanging and a lot of tennis ball squeezing. Some time around that I came across a community on the internet - Iron Grip ( vk.com/iro...

20th june 2020 session & one of the old garage gym dilemmas

20.06.2020 Really hot day. Last couple sessions were enjoyably hard. According to my current plans, I'm going for a lighter load on bench press today. Couldn't stop myself from going a bit further. "Tiny bench" press 60 kgs *15 70*31 70*22 70*23 after a slightly longer break 70*17 narrow grip  I put effort in keeping it stricter, I do have a bad tendency to not lock out. Every final rep of the set had to bridge (i.e. take my glutes off the plate), that's how I defined when it's time to stop. Really easy for everything except pecs. It makes sense, since I haven't benchpressed for a year (spring 2019-202) - back then I suspected that I snapped my right pec (only a tiny bit, it that makes sense, but it looked like my upper pec detached from a lower pec. It only looked like that though) Thankfully, right now it's all functional. Did some zercher half-squats 70kg *10 for fun, and some belt squats with 20 kg - to keep up the energy. Why is it a "tiny be...

18 june 2020 training session

18.06.2020 Felt better than expected. Continuing to do stiff legged DLs. General warmup 10 minutes, cureently checking out three new bands - Rottrevore, Funerabrum and Undergang, really enjoyed listening before the session. Stiff legged deadlift 60*5 100*5 130*5 150*5 simple overhand grip 170*13 with straps - I might have been taking too much time between reps DL lockout from above the knees 230*1 250*1 270*1 ends up being more of a leg lift, I think I should try 18 inch dls again Overhead press 60*20 as I was putting the plates away BW rn is around 104 kilos, a lot of water. I should write a post about myself. I'll do it on saturday, I think.

17th june 2020 training session

Well, keeping a log here feels like I'm starting a new path in life. I have way too much stuff to say. I used to discuss it with myself, now I can just write it down nonstop. Much easier than making youtube videos. General warmup 10 mins Squat (low bar, I don't normally do high bar) 60*5 80*5 100*5 130*5 150*5+3 - had to put it down for a minute because I dropped my player, but, more importantly, my hands keep sliding to the sides of the bar 100*5 slow 60*5 One small thing - I noticed that I'm actually lifting up my elbows. Old habit. Kept them lower on last two sets, felt better. One arm kettlebell press Warmup with 16 kg 32 - 2 set of 10 for each hand Stone press 70*10 70*1 different grip (both hands right under the stone rather than sideways). Parallel bar chinups 2 sets of 12 I'm thining to myself, why not post some unedited videos that are going to be posted only in here? Just might do it, right now. After all, my best result with this stone was only about 11 reps,...

First entry

I can't handle it anymore, I must create a blog. I thought it'd be too serious for me, a little worrying to let anyone access it. But I suspect that one of my favorite forums is about to shut down (I've seen that happen too many times), and I decided it'd be a good idea to finally create simply a corner for myself where I can come back and reflect on my thoughts.       I must apologize to myself in advance, because I decided that it'd be better if I typed faster, so I'm gonna ask myself in the future to not bother fixing all the typos. In fact, the way we communicate with ourselves is an extremely interesting subject. We all do it.     So, I was watching this video (by Eric Bugenhagen, who is quite a respectworthy guy in my eyes (for keeping his principles straight over a long period of time)) (this video -  https://youtu.be/q7MMp0epbiM not gonna embed it) and I thought to myself -      Basically, recently (on may 20th) I really changed ...
