May 25th - Deadlift 4 sets of 6 - not too bad, regaining shape

 25.05.2026

I woke up rather late yesterday with the intention of doing DLs - thankfully, I decided against it (after some struggle). No, my metabolism was just not ready to go forth with it the right way.

The deadlift is today. The plan is 4 sets of 6 with 248 - almost a medium-heavy weight / intensity. I woke a little earlier than usual, not much sleep, the heat's getting to me. Also the bed's been particularly uncomfortable for a couple weeks now - it seems I forgot I can flip the mattress, which is funny.

Yesterday night I managed to write something nice, yes I did - I'm happy about that. I got two or three scenes left to finish ch7rw4 and the first "story arc" of Michigander Marco. This book has transformed significantly - from brainless quirky fun to nostalgia to wannabe political spy-action-thriller to deeply psychological, interpersonal mess and now into a theological, mythical adventure - with a nice amount of semi-autobiographical stuff. That sounds like quite the leap, doesn't it?

My brain is managing the irritation so far - as do I. My body knows what's waiting for it, so I become angry. Lol.

It is honestly extremely hilarious how my brain reacts to DLs. Maybe I *need* to be angry in order to do good DLs? That sort of makes sense, heh.

I've been fantasizing a lot about pushpress, dreaming about it - then startled when I realized I have DL rather than PP, funny!

Thinking about some critics on some of the subreddits... One guy pretty much admitted he can understand the vision, the intentionality, the "inventing of the bicycle" and still proceeded to hate on my style like a complete idiot. I was amused at the time but now I just feel rather angry.

Again, 10 PM. I should start soon.

Workout

Deadlift

20 for 20

70 for 12

120 for 8

160 for 6 - DOHG

The bar is unevenly marked. It's been particularly bothersome to me.

SO FAR the solution is to grip it 1 cm closer to the center with the right hand (unless I flip it or walk around).

I need to remember it.

Or not. I might be confused.

200 for 6 - one rather nice rep DOHG, one hook, one reverse mixed, one mixed, two straps - nice and fun

I became really confused about this marking cue. I need to think.

233 for 6 - straps

248 for 6 after a relatively short break - hard. Not feeling "warmed up" yet! But it's sessions like today that force me to get better. And I have to force myself through them. Get all the volume, make body change.

248 for 6 much better - you could even say it was somewhat fast, although I had to reapply chalk in the middle (even though I was in straps) - because if I don't it'll hurt. Simple as that - it'll hurt, skin will tear.

I eliminated an unnecessary cue I've developed in the last few months - pushing my ass way too far in the back, pushing myself away from the bar in inhale / give extra range to the dynamic start. Just straightening my legs perpendicular to the floor is enough for the "pre-deadlift dance".

I've been kind of not maintaining the "tightness", the "bounciness" in my body - in the last few sessions. Let's hope the remaining two sets will be nice.

248 for 6 - not bad, but worse than second set. Did it as three doubles - again skin issues

248 for 6 - not bad. Belt loose on these two final sets. Not doing the "pelvic dig" very much on this set - just a very short kick-in. Did four reps without a break, then two more as singles. Still need to work on cardio/metabolism - but that's what today is ultimately for.

It's kinda hard for me to imagine that three days of salmonella could have done so much damage. Then again, I am doing a bunch of other stuff, such as reintroducing SQUATS back into the whole routine - that's not quite so simple 😀 And I am doing a lot of strange rehab work. I don't know what from, but my right calf has been rather sore ever since the 22nd, I think.

Stiff legged DL, not touching the floor

160 for 5 - one rep DOHG, 4 in straps - close to exhausted at this point. Can't really believe the sessions I used to have in April and March!

120 and 70 for 5

Interesting. I wonder if sets of 6 are somehow harder than sets of 8 lol. Re-reading the March 8th entry I feel way better about my lifts today.
