January 19th, Monday - Overhead workout
19.01.2026
Nice day. Sleep has been feeling strangely uncomfortable, a little nervous, a little too cold at night. Ate decently well. Worked, gave a lesson, had one large instant coffee - finished that old instant coffee with the grounds. It's decent. Put on my monitor headphones to listen to some Ahab, enjoyed it, kinda hyperfocusing, clenching my whole head, trying to understand what's going on. I have strange feelings sprouting deep inside, like something might happen. Not necessarily very positive feelings. I just feel something that is wrong. I feel like I don't wanna do anything. I do wanna train though. It's gonna be good, simple, taking my time, taking one step after another. I'm not gonna be dehydrated today.
Back in the day, when I played FO4 I liked installing all sorts of mods to fix all of them destroyed-style settlements instead of fixing it in game. Nowadays I find myself diametrically opposed to this idea! You literally are supposed to fix all that shit in game, with all the stupid silly rules and junk and broken pallets and concrete. What happened with my mindset? What changed?
And I also think it sort of makes a lot of sense that you can't craft stuff in that game. You should be able to break and repair stuff, but that's only power armor and some settlement objects. In FO76 they had to bring back breaking & repairing cause that was apparently one of the p2w strategies. I just like the idea of having a little challenge to fix something in game. But does it make sense to fix stuff? You should at least be able to clean something like guns, you know. Take it apart. Some stuff definitely can be customized. The whole lore and world of Fallout 4 makes little sense. Maybe it doesn't, it depends I guess.
What have I been doing in that game? Well, believe it or not, I actually have been enjoying the Survival mode, oldschool-style. It is really a magnificent experience in this game, when you try to assault a location, take everyone out bit-by-bit. I installed a silly mod that makes a lot of sense to me - it gives enemies perks, so it's basically an even higher grade of difficulty above Survival cause they all get CHUNKS of percentage damage and often I find myself dying without even seeing who shot me once I round a sussy corner. But also there are moments when I and a farm lady end up beating a friggin deathclaw to death with baseball bats, the first ever dealthclaw in my current playthrough, heh. They tried to make deathclaws a little too cinematic - they're doing all the weird dodging and posturing instead of rushing you and killing you. I'd like to imagine they're just much heavier than deathclaws in DC area and West Coast, lol. They do sound heavier and look thicker. But yeah, they should be rushing you when they see you, only dodging bullets side-to-side if they're far enough from you.
Workout
Warmup - mostly overhead Olympic stretching, rear delts
Overhead press
20 - 50 - 70
90 for 6 - the plan is to take 3 sets of 6 with moderate weight and make it feel light. This is semi-successful; I'm a little broken, pain in my right rotator cuff (caused strictly by my own stretching efforts), otherwise decently light set, focusing on pressing swiftly, with acceleration, sharply even, you could say.
Have I mentioned my finding that you have to have your upper back tight for an overhead front rack? Not for front squats, sure, but for overhead. Not super tight, but you're definitely not stretching your shoulders forward too much. It has to be tight, and arms have to support the barbell too, and then, if you have enough righteous mobility, you might shift some weight onto your torso. I don't have righteous mobility anymore - but I definitely am I very close to achieving a semblance of it. It's all about moderating my efforts at this point.
90 for 6 - very nice set, scowling same as on DLs when I push for speed - that feels very good. Some tissues straining, tightly wound in my right arm but nothing excessive. There's a certain "tension line" that goes from the base of my thumb through the forearm into my elbow. Tissue there is very tight.
90 for 6 - really good, very happy, rather painless at this point
Front rack micro squats
90 for 10 - full grip, pretty awkward
Interesting fact - I'm wearing a scarf now, alternative to restricting clothing and I think it sort of helps me not to strain my tissues too much on the front rack here 😁
90 for 3 more sets of 10 - nice, some bouncing strain in back (left side mid-erectors) but way lighter than last time.
Push press
70 for 4 nice
100 for 2 sets of 4 nice. Some instability. Forgot to tighten my belt, cause of how much your torso stretches when you got your arms vertically overhead and you're not leaning back. I specifically put on the big belt so it's extra funny how I forgot to tighten in. FOCUSING on lowering the bar really smoothly - as well as shooting it out with speed.
100 for 4 decent. Not perfectly stable, but good speed. I really miss when I could lower the bar so extremely smoothly from his above. You can see it on my "Good Moments 2015", when I lower the bar from pushpress. Don't really have that anymore! But I do have everything I need to redevelop such an ability. Oh yes, I do.
Cleans - power cleans
50 for 5 nice, feeling the hip bump
50 for 4 kinda awesome, although I decided to put it down after 4 due to the typical "clean" stretching, straining my right wrist, making the tissues feel like limp playdoh. I THINK I gotta focus on keeping the hook grip tight at all times - I think that could help. I enjoyed it so much I decided to continue.
50 for 5 okay. Kept hook grip all the time. Feels okay, not quite as bouncy here.
Gonna DL tomorrow - again, technically today already, but it's only 0:18 AM.
