November 26th - Small bench PR, can't stop getting injured, very upset

 26.11.2024

Nice day. Tuesday, believe it or not. I was so strangely relaxed yesterday. It makes sense - I postponed my Saturday workout onto Sunday and now my Monday workout has slid to Tuesday. I slept pretty much all day yesterday and today as well. I've been sleeping way more. Must be the climate... Or the fact that I'm trying adaptogens again. I know, I know - it's pseudoscience. But something compels me, still. I just know they're making me feel different. I admit, I suspect that the most active ingredient in them is the alcohol. Two teaspoons of that stuff, chinensis and rhodiola. And that's enough to fuck me up... Hmm. I kinda doubt it'll last, me taking it, that is. But I just gotta see it. I'm certain it helped turn me into a casual alcoholic back in the day, before 2015 even...

Today I feel great. My back feels much better, especially compared to yesterday. Almost nothing. I wanna do some bench and some very light squats today. And the alloted time has just come up to an end. It's 9 PM. I'll put on my training clothes, do some chest, elbow, shoulder and back warmups and go downstairs. Today we can go for higher reps in bench. 100 for 20? Haven't I done that last time? Would that be excessive? Or the opposite? Maybe I could try to do 125 for 10? I think it'd be a tiny PR, definitely a seasonal PR... Hehehe.

Workout

Warmup - stick movements for blood pumping and mild, non excessive stretching. Elbow rotations with a band around elbows - similar to what I've been doing with my legs to ease my hip pain. This movement, however, is new for me; also, thankfully, bench has been unproblematic and wrists have been above average, more or less.

Bench press

20 and 40

70 for 20

100 for 20 not bad, bit too easy I admit, but there was some reps in tank as well

125 for 10 - mini PR 😁

130 for 4 - I had to put it down cause my right upper pec started detaching again (i.e. straining heavily). Not a big deal - just a sign I need to take my time with bench. My strength really outpaces my durability. The pain is very moderate.

90 for 1 is still hurts. The issue wasn't the weight but muscle flexion.

I think I may wanna - I will, in fact - include more stuff from real old school lifting. Short range lifting - to stimulate the connective tissue more so than the muscle. That way connective tissue will not outpace the muscle. Cause I think that's my problem. Also, the problem is in the lack of muscle energy, the actual ATF etc. Some of it runs out from a part of the muscle and they tear. Dehydration, overly long workouts... That was a really short workout though, but it was done on a mostly empty stomach. What did I eat? I had a meal over 12 hours ago, and I had some milk with my coffee... And that's it. Hmmm.

Squat

A lot of warmups

70 for 5

70 for 10 feeling very fragile, but this is not too bad.

70 for 5 pauses in the bottom... I'm kind of a wreck. But hey, this was a long set and it didn't hurt too much.

P.S. It helped today to roll the bar up higher onto my traps, almost into the neck... I'll see if it works well next time.
