Monday, November 27th - A very messy OHP workout
27.11.2023
Nice day. Didn't sleep very nice. Nervous, pain in my leg from wrong squatting. Took a lot of different pills. I don't normally do that. Well, just to be clear - I took two melatonins and one painkiller pill (nsaid) last night, as well as my vitamins. It bothered my throat, I kept feeling like they're stuck in there. In general I felt alright. Ate too much nasty stuff. Too much sugar. Had fewerish repetitive dreams, unpleasant. Woke up before the right time a few times, then it got cold and I had to add pressure in the heater. Took a caffeine pill when I "finally" woke up, then gave a lesson - downstairs, for once. In the last few months I've developed an incorrect habit of giving lessons only from my room, while there are nice spots downstairs. During and after the lesson my stomach kept hurting. It's sort of obvious it must have been the pain pill, just like aspiring that gave me lesions in 2017 (they healed). Ate a little, it helped. Now I'm having one coffee. I had a very unpleasant short freakout yesterday when I couldn't find an item. I admit it, it's sort of a weak point for me. I need to work on that. It stressed me out more than it should have. I admit my weaknesses, that how you have to fight them. Solidy your mind, patch up that crack in the wall. Well, it was better than the last time I had that kind of freakout - I did not break anything, or kick things. Yes, in October I had some of the bad ones. For a long time I thought I was an adult, able to control these little mental pains, but something went wrong in October. Yesterday it wasn't great, but I can see progress in growing back to healthy. I was in control, more or less. Not perfect, but I was okay, and I calmed down. The fewerish dreams I've had, they bother me now. I feel like I might be ill. We'll see. I'd like a nice workout today, if possible. I will need to take my time, however. Still very much enjoying writing, you know.
***
I don't feel great today. But I feel good enough for a moderate load on my OHPs. It's the effort that makes the session.
Workout
Minimal warmup - just l-flys
Had to do something else outside.
Overhead press
20
50
70 for 6 a little awkward but okay
100 for 2 okay
110 for 2 about the same
115 for 2 nice, but I think I might have cheated while attempting to be more strict. It can be confusing. You think you're doing something to make the movement strict, but you do the opposite. It mostly involves keeping your legs and knees in the same position. You only gotta use them to adjust the angle and to heave the torso - rather that the whole stiff body. It's like cracking a whip. Pushpress is like swinging a stick, and OHP is like a whip.
118 for 1 and a half - nice, strictness-wise, but I thought too much. Don't pause after first rep. Not very mindful today in general. No big deal.
118 fail - CNS spark is missing, still off balance. I'll get myself back.
110 for 2 okay, nice, very strict.
100 for 6 - I was listening to Battle Hymns and it got to Dark Avenger. When the lyrical part was over, I decided to go for some reps. Well, it's 80% of my good max, good enough. This set helped me cheer up even more. Just a bit off balance, but I did what I needed and that felt nice.
A few more reps with the bar.
One arm press, bottoms up kettlebell
16 kg - 1 sets of 10 each, taking a break between arms
32 kg - an attempt with the left hand (got close to lockout but lost balance), 1 rep right - felt okay. I gotta learn not only to press, but also to lower the kettlebell back into position. Tried one more time with the left, but my stomach started hurting, possibly from abdominal pressure. I had to make peace with all this and stop. I had way too much coffee for no reason yesterday. I forgot how to recover intuitively when I switched to this sort of "everyday training". Well, it has been working very well for the last couple weeks nad before that too.
