Wednesday, August 23rd 2023 - Deadlift, closing the spread between minimax and supermax, tips on breathing between reps on DL

 23.08.2023

Nice day. Feeling calm, even sleepy for no reason. I think my CNS is getting adjusted.

Well, I'm always a little sleepy at first. Now I'm not. Reading more news that convince me we live in hell and we're the demons. Oh well.

Week 2, Session 1 - 77,5% for 5 sets of 5. Today I want to minimize the spread. What will it be? I think it can be going from 235 to 245. Reasonable? Perhaps. We shall see.

I think I've gotten thinner. Someone asked me if I've been losing weight. I lost some weight 8 weeks ago, and I think I've had a period of changed metabolism. Now I'm not too light, but I kinda look thinner. You can check the videos and compare them to last year.

Workout

Warmup - not upstairs. Somehow, wasting energy upstairs feels wrong.

Deadlift

20 - 70 - 160 for 5

Shaved, as I often do during my deadlift.

203 for 5 - two reps overhand, three reps hook grip. Hook grip got better.

235 for 5 nice enough, took voluntary breaks. Might have tightened the belt too much

238 for 5 much better, less time spent on breaks, all easy. Unusual good feeling in my shoulders and upper back - they are way less strained for some reason, like I don't have to pull the bar into myself as much.

240,5 for 5 - nice, roughly the same, had to take a longer break (undid the straps and stood up) to loosen my nose and get oxygen before the last two reps in the set. Listening to some old school DM, but not Manowar yet.

243 for 5 - very nice, again took a voluntary stand after third rep as by that point the blood pressure in my head really erects the tissues in my nose. All reps were pretty smooth. First I listened to one of the oldschool DM songs on my playlist that I like a lot (Eviscium - Jesters of Recession), but I just had to switch to Manowar's Lord of Steel, the first song on my favorite Manowar album (only Hammer edition though, did not like the power metal edition as much, even though I have actually purchased it on my google play music a long time ago).

245,5 for 5 - nice too. I wanted to not make a standing break, so I continued reps with the straps tied, inhaling through my mouth and breathing forcefully through the narrowed nose. As a result, on the fifth rep I could feel my quads starting to burn up - just as I was standing. I did not inhale fully enough and didn't brace well. But, thank God, I managed the rep with some gentle continuous pulling, adjusting my angles when it felt right.

So, lesson of the day: stand up and inhale through your nostrils.

Overall, I am very glad with today's efforts and results.

I got into re-reading some old nice articles from the good ol' Ditillo2.blogspot.com
