Wednesday, 21st of December 2022 - Having a light workout on wednesday for the first time in a while, stretch reflex on pullups discovery
21.12.2022
Nice day. Not much. Didn't play FO4 yesterday. Woke up early went somewhere to help someone, managed to buy some things I was missing. Now I'm thinking and I realise there is so much more that I could, realistically, be in need of. So much. But baggage is limited. On my way back I bought some new coffee. Jardin Original and instant Bushido coffee, but this one costed 30% more - the red label, the one I've been buying in beans. Wondering. Think if most of it will be left I'll take it with me. In a baggie, not a glass jar.
It's very late. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do today. How I'm gonna work out. I think I could actually not do DLs today. I might have a light workout today and DLs tomorrow. I really wish to go before this week's end. These last two weeks have passed so quickly. I have a feeling they just forgot once again. I'm call them and tell them it's been two weeks again.
What would be a good exercise to do if I wanna do some medium-light DLs tomorrow? I have an idea. Squats, a forgotten cool exerise, and some very light lats. That's what I feel like doing. I just typed "need" instead of feel. My fingers have an extra connection to the brain that allows them to type much faster that I think. If I just tried typing what I think very quickly it'd end up a mess.
Workout
Warmup - minimal
Squats - 4 sets of 15
Wall pushups - 2 sets - right shoulder feels a little wonky
Pushups - 2 sets of 10
Burpees - 2 sets of 10 reps - Pretty awkward, but fun. I can still do them somewhat quickly. Shoulders pumped a little.
Rubber lat pulls - 2 sets of 20 - feels nice
Pullups - 2 sets of 10 - only decided to do 10 to reduce risk of straining something. But it got way better by the end. First set was creaky, I was doing it intentionally slowly, trying to figure out what hurts and what doesn't. Obviously, full stretch isn't good for someone as heavy as me (108 kgs today, with some clothes and food). The second set, however, was unexepectedly awesome, as I tried using the stretch reflex and accelerate up and down, just like on squat. Acceleration downwards is more even (i.e. speed changes less) and upwards it's higher (speed goes up faster). Curious awesome tip! Trying using the stretch reflex on pullups. Wouldn't recommend doing it on exercises that require a dead stip, like DL and OHP, but squat and pullups seem somewhat fitting (even though you usually have a dead start on pullups as well). If you trained a max weight pullup then stretch refelx would probably be detrimental. But overall seems great. For that matter, tough and go DLs and OHPs can be fun and *useful* too, it's just that it's not a common, conventionally useful way to improve the max weight you can lift. There is still something to discover here. Hmm...
Random picture of the day - Britain again. There's something so cute about those small modular houses.
