Monday, Fifth of December, 2022 - Pushups, BW squats, further improvements in running
05.12.2022
Nice day. It's been almost two weeks. Slow. Sleeping not great. But I'm no longer dumb enough to bother myself over this. I know if needed I'll wake up early and keep waking up early. I know it for certain.
Had one coffee. Strangely sick of it. It happens. In periods. Had a cup of decent instant coffee. We're having a light workout today. I mean, really light. Last week we were doing a lot of unexpectedly heavy stuff. Well, not really. Last two weeks, more like it.
I actually like my mixing on As Yggdrasil. More than those other commercial bands. I'm thinking, what if I only used a limiter on the master bus, but assigned expanders with, uhm, punchy compressors on instrument busses? It's been so long since I worked on mixing well. I don't want to get back into music before I leave. I don't want to miss it as much. Weird. Meanwhile, I keep doing a lot of random noodling as well as somewhat structured exercising on my acoustic and classical. Passage Ritual has a punchy mix if you listen to it on low volume. And commercial bands have the kind of mix you can listen to on a train. In a way, that is good. Not really. Not original. An important aspect streamlined.
Very late. 9 PM. I am gonna run today. I feel like I will be able to improve my best result today. Legs feel a tiny bit sore, but fresh at the same time. I can feel strong electric impulses going through me.
Workout
Warmup, light, short, mostly upper body
Wall pushups - 3 sets of 20
Pushups - with dumbbells as handles. "Performance mode".
10 - 20 - harder than I wish it was, as per usual after a heavy workout a few days ago
100 - nice, feeling good. Not the strictest technique, but good enough to consider them all reps. Had short breaks, have to note it, because, well, they do make the whole ordeal easier. (80+10+5+3+2) And I mean short breaks, less than 10 seconds (or so I think, ha ha 😎)
Well, than might be enough for my upper body. Now to warmup for running.
Measured my BW at 110. I think I might have gained some. Isn't that funny how I've gained muscle? Unexpected. My nutrition has been decent, sleep okay, cardio - present, but not enough make me lose it for real. I'd have less BW if I had to do some walking bureaucracy, he he. That burns a lot of calories.
Squats - bodyweight
10 - 20 feels nice
50 - 50 a lot of muscle burn, cardio loaded, pretty great!
Legs definitely warmed up now. Of course, a lot more muscles are involved in running. Particularly your back. Kinda wanna try a different route today for real...
Picked and measured a different route. This one will have me traversing a plenty of uneven terrain. That might slow me down, naturally. Must keep that in mind. Should plan ahead and put more effort into running when it's safer, and slow down over ice. Legs still massively pumped.
Ran a kilometer. Squatting so much definitely depleted my legs a bit. Overall - I am very satisfied with today, condsidering what I was able to do. Stopped the timer at 8:02, but considering the fiddling I calculate that the actual time is around 7:50. I did have to traverse a lot of ice and some stairs, and thus was able to really speed up in end, close to sprinting. And what else is great is that I was able to run for a very long at first, before I had to slow down. Might consider keeping this route in the future. Also met a random person who stared at me in amazement (I assume).
You know, I am actually starting to enjoy running. The cold air was a tiny bit strenuous today, but only a little bit. I'm not coughing now, like I did on friday. Ia m enjoying it because of how challenging it is, especially compared to when I was younger and lighter. And I'm going against various leg injuries I've had. Great stuff. And it makes me feel light, like I can really move around. Like in video games. Like in Doom. Easily and quickly. And the hormonal system is starting to provide a better response as well. Maybe I'll finally get that runner's high that I never really got when I was a teenager jogging. Or at least that's how it felt. Less rewarding than it does now.
